Hello all, Times have been equal parts bizarre and pedestrian over here. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. My hope is that you are not feeling alone, that you are finding ways to be creative and that you are enjoying watching mother nature’s silver seed sigh with some relief while the planes are not in the air and the cars are not in the streets. “You can cut all the flowers, but you cannot keep spring from coming,” said Pablo Neruda. In today's newsletter we have an interview with our hero Toody Cole, a survey of Nigerian record covers, and some more nostalgia about the early days of Mississippi Records. At the bottom of the news you’ll find links to Mississippi Records various online activities. Stay strong out there and please reach out to us if you need anything. I recommend approaching each day with lots of INTENTIONALITY. That is the key word. It’s like the song says, “dreams are free motherfucker.” Rocks and gravel, Eric https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhg6ikhbGe-Z7RUDDrR5OtupW47XTnulA

Mississippi Street Fair, the year the record store put up a facade to make it look like a Starbucks was moving into our spot. One window sign said, “Come in for the Starbucks Mississippi grand opening and get a free Putumayo Smooth Jazz CD.”

Mississippi YouTube Mixes Because I have lost the luxury of DJing records in my record shop for a captive audience all day, I am now creating daily "youtube mixes" - 10 songs a day as long as this shut in continues https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt2giAvNmgcm-wnnCIlcmXA/playlists?view_as=subscriber
Mississippi Records is still buying record collections in Portland! We are being selective, but our retail store is buying record collections during this pandemic. You can expect to receive 60% of the retail value of your records, but - keep in mind that's based on our retail shops usual cheap prices, not inflated internet prices. We are only buying in the Portland area and can do pickups. Happy to help you out with cash in this tough time - but please bare in mind we are bing selective on what we buy. If you are interested in selling, email -[email protected]
